It has been over 20 years since I joined my first network marketing business. Since then I have graduated from being a lowly novice, to an established distributor, a plucky professional and finally a specialist.
Becoming a network marketing professional or even specialist takes years of training and dedication. The journey will sometimes be tough and sometimes exciting but always a development from our traditional self.

Often I get asked if the types of network marketing models have any reference to the types of people that enjoy being a network marketer.
And I will have to say not really, even if the business plan becomes more complex as we go through the ranks. Of course the profession or specialist will most likely jump through the rank and plan scales faster than a novice.

The professional is a career network marketer. They love the industry and can make a success from almost any network marketing company. When they join a new MLM company they take their time to understand everything about the company. They may even travel to their main office, even if it is in another country. Once they know everything about the company they formulate a plan and strategy to get the best possible results. This method always creates great results.
What defines a MLM professional?

The MLM specialist
The specialist is similar to the professional in many ways. The main difference is that they specialize in a market method that many network marketers do not want to do.
Like the professional, the specialist reviews all the information about the company and its marketing and business plan.
Unlike the professional the specialist uses skills and knowledge such as the internet and content marketing methods. The goal is to automate the product’s selling and prospecting process as much as possible.
Many older network marketing professionals frown on the marketing method the specialist uses. They feel that there is not enough value in building a relationship with the customer or team member.
The specialist would argue that the world has changed dramatically since the first MLM company started trading. They would also say that the internet has made the world fundamentally small and the marketing possibilities online easier and cheaper.

An established distributor is someone that has some knowledge of network marketing and has even built a downline. These people may have researched and tried several strategies or even taken advice from their upline. The likelihood is that they have learnt with some success how to make some money from the network marketing business.
Their main income will come from retail sales as much as from their downlines sales. Often they find that running parties or trade shows bring in much of their income.

A MLM novice is exactly what it sounds like, someone who is new to the MLM and network marketing industry. These are people that have just started and so they know very little about running a MLM business. Often they will try any marketing method they hear about. They are excited to know how to gain leads and build their business fast.
For the novice I would recommend that they use the early days of their business to learn everything needed to build their business fast.
