In my eyes the only important factor of building a MLM business using your social circle is the relationship. The personal and business relationship is always better than a virtual relationship. However, apart from that the recruitment, the selling of the products and marketing your business is better served online. It is better because it is so time consuming and frustrating as well as humiliating. Even though business rejection is not personal it is hard not to see it as so. While using an online method, someone reads your content then they either like the idea and contact you for more details or reject it out of hand. There are no bad feelings, no heart ache, just a “no thanks” and let’s move on.

Let me tell you from the start, I receive emails daily from people wanting to build their MLM business online until they realize what they need to do. Everyone loves the idea of becoming an online marketer and creating content on the fly until they realize what they need to learn. So let me make it 100% clear from the start:
Work is required!
Here are a few things you need to know before you get started
- Education and training will be your key to success.
- If something can be automated it should be automated.
- Social media and the internet are simply a virtual extension of the physical world.
- Selling your company’s products will not be enough, you also must recruit a team.
- You still need to build relationships physically or virtually.
- Do not believe in a platform that says it will recruit a team for you.
I know that this article is going to put many people off, I know how it goes. I believe that I am smart and hard working and still understand how difficult working online can be. There is a massive learning curve between the time you learn how to create and share your content and when you start earning money. And even though I would argue that working online is more affordable than most options, it is not free.
Sadly, there is no system that is 100% automated. However, using a workable online method does mean you are available globally 24 / 7.
Is an online MLM business duplicatable?
I would love to say “Yes”, but unfortunately not.
I can recall being asked at a convention some years ago how I was recruiting so many people. When I briefly explained I was told that using an online network marketing business strategy was not duplicatable and that I was a specialist. He was of course putting me down because he felt that the point of MLM was that it was duplicatable.
Yes, he had a point but the concept of duplication in network marketing doesn’t take into account of two things:

I personally found that your niche should be something you have some knowledge of already, but are also passionate about. It will make it far easier to create content on a subject you already know about. So, write what you know and become an authority for your readers. Also, it is not possible to cover every topic so don’t try pleasing everyone.
If you have read anything I have written you will notice that my target audience are those wanting to make money from home. So, topic include:
- Network marketing / MLM
- Affiliate marketing
- Lead generation
- Online MLM business opportunity
- Online marketing
- Cryptocurrency mining and trading
Of course you do not need to copy me. Think about something you are very interested in and base your content on that niche and target audience.
Step Two
Create or build a lead capture page or blog.
Firstly, ask yourself what skills you believe you have and how it will help you to have your own lead capture page or blog.
There is of course an argument for having a single page website to capture leads, however blogs are far easier to get started. Also there are many generic and free landing page templates available online. However, there is a lot of work and trial and error before things fall into place.
Alternatively you can get a specialist to do all the hard work for you but using a landing page service. Generally, this type of service will get everything setup for you including doing the SEO, setting up an auto-reply service and submitting everything to all the search engines.

Step Three
If something can be automated it should be automated, so use a autoreply service.
The autoreply service simply automates your business. When you are shopping, with the kids in the park or on a date with your partner you are still able to respond straight away. You will very quickly build a large warm leads list using this method. In addition, you can integrate it into almost any platform you are using such as your blog, podcast, or even your YouTube channel.
There are many autoreply services available online but try to avoid Mailchimp because they do not like network marketing businesses. I have been using aWeber for a long time and found it a very good service. To make it more interesting it is offering a FREE service up to 500 leads.
Step Four
Getting lots of traffic.
When you blog or capture page is ready to go and you autoreply service is activated it is time to bring traffic to your pages.
The choices you have will depend how much you are willing to do.
For example:
- Optimizing your capture page or blog with quality long tail keywords will give you lots of traffic.
- Sharing your capture page or blog with quality social media platforms will also give you lots of traffic.
In my opinion it is best to keep to a strategy that works for you. If you do lots of different things you would be sure which one is a waste of time. In addition, the more free traffic you can have going to your capture page or blog the better.
Step Five
The follow-up and building a relationship.
The interesting aspect of using an autoreply system is being able to automatically follow up with the prospect.
So, you know from the start, prospects and customers will not buy or join your business from day one. They may need a few emails before they react. In fact I have had prospects on my mailing list for as long as 2 years before they buy anything. So, make sure that your follow-up emails offer interesting, informative and entertaining content. This will help the prospect come to a decision one way or another.
Step Six
Work with a quality MLM company.
I hear lots of people who are not working in network marketing believe that joining a startup is the way to go.
Sorry, but not true.
Like any business the failure rates of start ups even in network marketing is as much as 90%. So, you should be looking for network marketing companies that have a track record and have been here for about 10 years. In addition, consider if the products fit your lifestyle and if the quality and price range works for you and your customer base.

Regardless if you are a hardcore MLM traditionalist or you see the future in MLM marketing online, you still need a capture page or blog. Nobody in their right mind today can believe that the internet will not have a positive role in marketing their MLM business. Even if you only consider being able to follow-up automatically 24 / 7 something you would have likely forgotten offline.
Something I didn’t mention is the best way to build that important personal relationship if you are working online. Technology has changed everything. The smartphone, the Zoom call and even a group call are all ways of reaching out to team members online. Of course it is not the same as going for coffee, but people have become accustomed to the virtual experience. The goal should be if possible is to start the relationship online and move it to in person.
